Symptoms Of Early Onset Mesothelioma
The first two symptoms to appear in both pleural and peritoneal mesothelioma are shortness of breath and pain in the affected area.
Patients with pleural mesothelioma also present with a pleural effusion, a fluid buildup in the lungs. In 60% of the cases, the pleural effusions will form in the right lung. Other symptoms of pleural mesothelioma include persistent cough, weakness, fever, fatigue and difficulty swallowing.
Ascites, or fluid buildup in the abdominal cavity, is a characteristic of tumors in the abdomen. They may also show symptoms of weight loss, nausea, vomiting, fatigue and bowel obstruction.
Initial symptoms of mesothelioma are vague, and often ignored or mistaken for a different disease process. It is for this reason that a complete physical and medical history must be obtained by the doctor. Some patients may not show any symptoms until the asbestos cancer has reached an advanced stage.
